CLEARANCE, NY -- New from Innovative Concepts in Entertainment is Ice Age, a video redemption game based on the animated movie franchise of the same name. The licensed amusement features characters and themes from the movie.
In the game, players use mallets to whack soft rubber acorns, which sends strategically placed ice cracks toward the center of the playfield in an attempt to score points. Encountering a scrolling cartoon character or object will stop the ice crack for a variable number of points; the closer to the playfield center, the higher the points will be.
The acorns are associated with the movie's Scrat, a saber-toothed squirrel who is obsessed with acorns and is constantly putting his life in danger to obtain and defend them.
ICE officials observed that the "Ice Age" film franchise is the highest-grossing animated movie property of all time. The first movie was released in 2002 and was followed by "Ice Age: The Meltdown" (2006) and "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" (2009). The fourth installment, "Ice Age: Continental Drift," is scheduled for release in July 2012.
The arcade game adaptation was developed in conjunction with Play Mechanix, the videogame studio that worked with ICE on Deal or No Deal and other coin-op games.
The game unit is equipped with a 42" LCD that serves as the playfield and 22" high-def LCD marquee. It measures 94" high x 34" deep x 69" wide. In two-player configuration, it offers continuous, independent play on each side of the field.
Clarence, NY-based Innovative Concepts in Entertainment has been developing redemption games for more than a quarter of a century, including favorites like Cyclone, Wheel of Fortune and Deal or No Deal. Ice Age debuted at the recent IAAPA Attractions Expo, along with Deal or No Deal Mega. Also new is Emporium, a 60" double-capacity crane; Lift Mania, a merchandiser in which players control forks to gently lift prizes off shelves; and styling enhancements to ICE's winner-every-time crane lineup.
DEAL OR NOW DEAL WHEEL VALUES
Separately, ICE is making available high-value wheel variants for Deal or No Deal Mega. ICE vice-president Joe Coppola said that higher-value wheels improve games in the field set at higher costs per play.
"ICE came up with the new wheel values after significant testing, and we've found these new values give the player a much more interesting risk/reward scenario when they reach the final case and have the opportunity to spin the Mega Bonus wheel," he said.
