John Schultz Renews Contract With AAMA

Schultz has four decades of experience in automatic music, amusements and merchandise vending, but his executive role at AAMA is his first job for a nonprofit organization. Between 1998 and 2008, the industry veteran was president of Rock-Ola Manufacturing Corp., the legendary jukebox company. Before taking the top staff position at AAMA, he worked in new business development for a short period at Apple Industries, a New York-based supplier of photobooths. In addition to manufacturing, he's served in the equipment operations and distribution channels.

Schultz played a key role in the merger of AAMA's former trade show, the Amusement Showcase International, and the Amusement and Music Operators Association's confab into the new Amusement Expo, held annually in the spring. The first three Amusement Expos have grown consecutively, and turned profits for both associations. The 2013 exposition runs from March 20 to 22.

During Schultz's first three years as AAMA president, the association's membership has grown 30%. He cites Amusement Expo, which offers members an effective once-a-year coin-op sales forum, and a reinvigorated AAMA Government Relations Committee as key membership drivers. "We need to show our members that we are here to support the amusement industry legislatively," Schultz said. "And membership is the heart and soul of this association."

Founded in 1981, AAMA is an international nonprofit trade organization representing manufacturers, distributors and parts suppliers involved in the coin-operated amusement industry. John Margold of AMI Entertainment is AAMA chairman, an elected post.

Margold begins the second half of his two-year term at the amusement association's membership meeting, which runs from Aug. 7 to 9 at the Wyndham Lisle (Lisle, IL). The annual Distributors' Gala, which combines a product showing, cocktails and dinner, will be held in conjunction with the meeting on the evening of Aug. 9 (Thursday).
