SPRINGFIELD, IL -- Officials of the Illinois Gaming Board said operator-run video lottery terminals will finally be up and running by August.

The launch arrives 40 months after Gov. Pat Quinn signed the Video Gaming Act in 2009, and 11 months after the state Supreme Court ruled 7-0 that the act was consistent with the Illinois constitution. | SEE STORY

As of July 9, the IGB website showed that VLT licenses had been issued to as many as 75 operators, but only 19 locations. The licensed venues include 18 taverns and one private club for veterans. Operators have been spending a great deal of time working with locations to assist them in completing their VLT license applications, sources said.

Not surprisingly, video gaming was the prime topic at the annual meeting of the Illinois Coin Machine Operators Association, held June 27-29 at the Crystal Lake Holiday Inn. The event drew more than 215 participants and 25 exhibitors amid an exciting atmosphere surrounding VLTs, said ICMOA executive director Rich Mitchell.

Scientific Games, which is providing the central computer system for Illinois's video lottery terminals, dispatched project manager Scott Stewart to the ICMOA meeting. AMOA president Andy Shaffer of Shaffer Services (Columbus, OH) and IGB general counsel Lynn Carter were among other special guests.

ICMOA also elected new officers during its meeting. Phil Webb of ASAP Vending (Spring Grove) was chosen as the state association's new president. Scott Renville, Board Machine (Kankakee), is vice-president; Jason Rowell, Action Amusement (Ashley), is secretary; and Craig Cohoon, Best Gaming (Springfield), is treasurer.
