LBP UpShot Filter

CICERO, IL -- LBP Manufacturing Inc. is rolling out eco-friendly single-serve filters compatible with Keurig and other brewers, paired with a flexible production model designed to meet the needs of roasters of all sizes.

Called the UpShot Solution, the line features a filter with a mesh design that allows consumers to see and smell the coffee or tea inside when they open its seal prior to brewing. This is said to impart heightened sensory appeal to the brewing process, and to boost consumers' confidence in the product's freshness.

Each portion pack accommodates 8g. to 12g. (0.28 oz. to 0.4 oz.) of roast ground coffee, giving roasters the ability to achieve optimal coffee-to-water ratio. The single-use filters are made from 100% recyclable material, with an outer seal that can also be made with recyclable materials.

LBP explained that the UpShot Solution gives roasters direct control over their product quality and production volume, with the flexibility to rapidly scale capacity up or down in response to market conditions.

Packaging equipment used in producing the portion packs can be tailored to suit roasters' specific needs. High-volume machinery is available for large brands and mid-to-low volume equipment accommodates smaller roasters. Roasters can choose to bundle filters into multi-unit pouches suited to office coffee service and foodservice suppliers, or select machinery that wraps the single-serve filters in individual pouches more typical in retail environments.

Roasters can also limit their capital investment by converting their existing machinery to accommodate UpShot filter production, or purchase capacity from businesses that already have installed appropriate packaging equipment. LBP does not sell the packaging systems for its UpShot portion packs. It assists in selecting hardware suppliers who can install or customize equipment. The company also helps with equipment configuration plans, setup and testing, and can help customers make contact with potential partners willing to resell packaging capacity.

"The idea for the UpShot Solution came largely from our customers," said LBP president Matt Cook. "By listening closely to them, we came to understand that quality, speed and flexibility are the watchwords for the single-serve category."

LBP's sustainable retail and foodservice packaging solutions include its Coffee Clutch hot cup sleeve, Beverage on the Move insulated beverage to-go carrier and Thermo Grip double-wall hot cups.
