WASHINGTON, DC — The National Milk Mustache “got milk?” Campaign is introducing a program that will publicize operator success stories, thus encouraging others to recognize the market potential of milk vending. Called “Spotlight On,” the program invites vendors to share their success stories at a special section of the “got milk” campaign’s business and industry website, milkdelivers.org.

APPLETON, WI — Jonathan Becker has been promoted to president of Toy ‘n Joy, a division of L.M. Becker Co. Inc. and a leading supplier of bulk vending products. The move, which comes during the parent company’s 65th anniversary, signals a major effort to reorganize the firm. Becker replaces Marlene Campbell as division president, and Laura Van Groll has been promoted to vice-president of operations from the position of controller.

One characteristic of entrepreneurial businesses is that they almost always are run by people who execute efficiently in the present while thinking about the future. The market does not reward activity aimed at recording and analyzing the past, and so few people take the time to do it. That is as it should be... While the pioneers of our diverse but related route service industries do reminisce about the good old days, and many of them have memorabilia on display in their offices, there has been no coherent industry effort to conserve the vending, music and games, and office refreshment service legacy.

Our colleagues at RePlay Magazine recently published a stunning statistic based on a reader poll, to the effect that 55% of U.S. operators do not reinvest profits into their routes in any systematic way. Paradoxically, the lend-lease professionals at Firestone Financial Corp. and Betson Financial Services have reported (in VT) that their volume of transactions in the coin machine industry increased by double digits from 2005 to 2006.
