SANTA CLARA, CA -- Intel is seeking new ideas, talents and projects for the vending machine market of the future by inviting Kenyan innovators to strut their stuff in its Intelligent Vending Competition. The winners of the competition will be given an opportunity to showcase their work at Venditalia, an international vending trade show in Milan to be held May 7 to 10. The deadline for applications is March 1.

"This being a global competition, we would like to encourage many Kenyan startups to participate," said Intel East Africa general manager Danie Steyn. "This competition offers a platform for local startups not only to showcase their innovative ideas, but to also compete on a global stage, get much needed exposure and possibly access a broader market."

Judges will evaluate submissions based on the user experience driven by machine-to-human interfaces that encompass rich graphics, touchscreen, gesture recognition and social media integration and similar technologies. The integration of vending system management functions to the computer platform (e.g., telemetry, connectivity, product and price management) will also be considered.

Additionally, machine innovations will be critiqued for such business models as multi-vend and price campaigns, including discounting, vouchering and coupons, and loyalty programs. The final area for which submissions will be judged is integration of payment and transaction methods to the vending platform.

Intel's computer chips are behind some of the industry's most innovative and high-profile vending innovations, like Mondelez's Diji-Touch machine and PepsiCo's interactive vender. Vending Times detailed the company's big plans and vision for PC-controlled vending in the December 2012. | SEE STORY
