NORWOOD, MA -- A new API from Crane Merchandising Systems, now testing under the company's Streamware brand, is capable of managing micromarkets, as well as vending machines. According to Crane, the new API allows operators to use Crane's Streamware products for inventory management, cash accountability, scheduling and prekitting, among other tasks.

The company explains that, when working in VendMax, the management of operators' micromarkets will be similar to the management of their vending machines. They can designate a micromarket as a type of point of sale. Once set up, they'll be able to manage planograms, and access revenue and performance data in a single software suite, without the need for separate programs.

Planograms and other location services created in VendMax will be transmitted to the corresponding micromarket kiosks. Likewise, sales and inventory information from each micromarket will be transmitted into VendMax.

"With the increase in micromarket installations over the past few years, it was clear that a solution would be needed to align this new technology with existing vending software programs," said Streamware product manager Silpa Pande.

Currently in field trial with micromarket provider Company Kitchen (Merriam, KS), the API will enable the use of VendMax to obtain a view of an entire operation when it is released in July of this year. While field-testing is currently active only with CK, the Streamware API is generic, and can accommodate any standard or custom micromarket software.

"Operators love the fact that with kiosks, they can offer both convenience and more variety. But they are also accustomed to the many benefits that VendMax offers in terms of efficiency," said Company Kitchen president Jim Mitchell. "Having all of the sales and product information for the entire fleet of equipment in one place will save operators time, money and resources."
