BURKESVILLE, KY -- The Kentucky Automatic Merchandising Council drew more than 80 industry members to Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park here for its annual meeting.

KAMC president Mike Alexander of Mike Alexander & Assoc. (Lexington) recognized the association's effort in getting House Bill 62 introduced into the state Legislature. Sponsored by state Rep. Steve Riggs, the bill was designed to exempt vending from the state's 6% sales tax.

"Getting this bill introduced was a huge milestone for the vending industry; and although it was not passed, it provides momentum and recognition for our group," said KAMC president Mike Alexander. "Between our successful legislative day at the capitol and the large turnout of members here at this year's meeting, I feel very optimistic about the direction in which KAMC is heading."

Kentucky Retail Federation president Todd Griffin presented "Legislation 101," during which he highlighted the dos and don'ts of building relationships with elected officials.

Ohio Automatic Merchandising Association president Matt Ryan of Sheehan Bros. Vending (Springfield, OH) provided a comprehensive update on micromarket developments in Kentucky's neighboring state, sparking dynamic discussion.

Rounding out the KAMC educational program was a year in review legislative overview by NAMA regional legislative director Sheree Edwards, focused primarily on health initiatives and taxes.

KAMC also presented $5,000 to recipients of the Good Life Scholarship named in memory of former KAMC board member Mark Barsotti.

A host of social activities, including a luau-style dinner, provided an opportunity for KAMC members to network.
