COLUMBUS -- The White Castle Original Slider was named Time magazine's most influential burger ever in a recent poll of hamburger historians.
The iconic fast food chain, which is family owned and has been in operation for more than 90 years, surpassed 16 other influential burgers on the list to take the No. 1 spot.
White Castle's original slider dates back to 1921, when it was first served at founder Billy Ingram's flagship restaurant in Wichita, KS. Today, White Castle serves more than 1.4 million sliders a day, which are made from 100% USDA-inspected beef.
Time interviewed burger historians and other experts to determine which burgers had the biggest effect on the industry. The article credited the slider for "pav[ing] the way for the great American burger obsession."
White Castle, headquartered in Columbus, OH, owns and operates more than 400 restaurants in 12 states. The legendary burger chain operates its own meat-processing plants and bakeries.
