GAITHERSBURG, MD -- Sodexo has partnered with MyFitnessPal to put nutrition information for its menu items at the tips of the fingers of its on-the-go customers and help them track their fitness activities.
The MyFitnessPal application is available as a free download on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows smartphones. It uses a barcode scanner, allowing consumers to instantly download nutrition information for a product as an alternative to searching for it in the MyFitnessPal database or entering it manually.
Sodexo has created unique codes for each of its products and recipes for use with the application and features them on its signs, labels and receipts. The contract foodservice giant's database of thousands of chef-developed menu items is integrated into the application. MyFitnessPal's nutrition database of more than 1.8 million products is also available on its website.
In addition, the program allows for integration of the consumer's information with FitBit, a tool used to track activity, diet and sleep patterns.
"People want help managing their day-to-day progress and keeping track away from home can sometimes present a challenge," said Bill Mitchell, national director of consumer technology solutions at Sodexo.
