SEATTLE -- Starbucks customers can now buy a $1 reusable cup at its cafés and kick the paper habit. The new plastic cups bear the Seattle-based coffee chain's logo and resemble its white paper cups. Interior lines denote a "tall" or "grande" size.
Starbucks already gives customers a dime discount each time they bring in reusable cups for refills, but it's hoping the new cup's low price will encourage more of them to get into the routine.
As with other reusable cups, Starbucks will clean the new ones with boiling water each time customers bring them in.
Starbucks tested the cups in 600 stores in the Pacific Northwest over the past few months and is now rolling them out across the U.S. and Canada.
