Aramark Incorporates Whole Grains Into K-5 Meals And Snacks

PHILADELPHIA -- Aramark has added a variety of new whole grain meal and snack offerings to school menus. The foodservice giant is hosting sampling events for students, parents and staff in K-12 districts across the country to spread the word.

Among the new whole-grain menu offerings are chicken nuggets made with whole grain breading, and macaroni salad with vegetables and whole grain pasta.

The contract foodservice provider, which serves more than 500 U.S. school districts, is also revamping snack selections with pretzels, granola and cereal bars, cookies and graham crackers that have been reformulated with more whole grains and fiber, and less fat, salt and sugar.

In addition to whole grains, Aramark's new school menus also feature more fresh fruits and vegetables, low and non-fat dairy options, lean proteins, and 100% fruit juice and water.
