pop-up arcade, standard hotel LOS ANGELES -- The tony Standard Down LA hosted a pop-up arcade in its SPiN ping-pong club where it featured 20 classic videogames and pinball machines. Admission was a reasonable $5 to access games on free play. The event held on Aug. 5 and 6 ran from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on both days. It also had DJs spinning classics from '70s, '80s and '90s, and served a full menu of $13 craft cocktails.

The Standard DTLA is one of a growing number of high-profile venues to feature classic coin-op games in the pop-up retail format. The pop-up store, or the flash-retailing trend, is the opening or short-term sales or event spaces. The Standard's arcade night attracted coin-op fans to a chic venue for geek treats and a taste of nostalgia.
