Drake's Cakes COLLEGEDALE, TN -- McKee Foods Corp. is bringing the 125-year-old Drake's cakes brand to back to store shelves on Monday, Sept. 23. The maker of Little Debbie snack cakes said it will initially launch Drake's most popular varieties -- Devil Dogs, Coffee Cakes, Ring Dings and Yodels -- in retail outlets in the Northeast. McKee purchased Drake's brands for $27.5 million this spring. Hostess Brands, which previously made Drake's snacks, along with other iconic snacks like Twinkies and Ho Hos, shut down its bakeries in late 2012 after filing for bankruptcy.

Starting Sept. 25, a product locator will be available at drakescake.com. Until then, Drake's fans can go to Facebook.com/Drakes for the latest in-store sightings of Drake's, and to add their own.

"The launch of these top four varieties is just the beginning for Drake's," said Chris McKee, executive vice-president, marketing and sales. "Our first mission is to get the most popular and familiar tastes back into the pantries and lunch boxes of Drake's loyal fans."

The formulation and packaging remain the same with the addition of the McKee logo. McKee also has maintained Drake's kosher certification from the Orthodox Union, indicated by the circle U symbol on cartons.

The purchase of the Drake's line is the biggest acquisition in the 79-year history of McKee Foods and should strengthen the Collegedale, TN, bakery's Northeast presence.
