Sega Plans To Raise Profile In U.S. On Social Networks

TOKYO -- Sega is planning to get more aggressive about promotion on social networks to increase its own profile in the United States, said Nikkei, a Japanese newspaper.

Japan's leading coin-op videogame manufacturer already has one free game on Facebook, Sega Play! Baseball, which draws more than 67,000 players a month. At present, however, many of the game's instructions are in Japanese.

Sega plans to make its Facebook baseball game U.S. player-friendly starting this month.

It will launch a second game, Sega Play! Football, in March on hi5, a social network that is said to be more game-oriented. In addition to a personal outline, hi5 also allows users to create personal photo albums, play online games and set up music players in their profiles.

Konami was the first Japanese coin-op videogame manufacturer to offer a Facebook game. Viva! Mall was announced on Jan. 7. | SEE STORY
