TOKYO -- Coca-Cola (Japan) Co. Ltd. and its bottling partners have committed to exclusively purchasing beverage vending machines with LED lighting in their product displays beginning in 2012.

LED lighting is said to reduce energy usage by 70% on an average, compared to conventional fluorescent lighting. The move is the latest in a series of energy-saving initiatives that Coca-Cola Japan reports have reduced annual power consumption by its vending machines by approximately 66% over the past decade.

Recent efforts to "green" Coca-Cola Japan's business include the addition of energy-saving technologies, HFC-free venders and machines with solar panels.
