Joe Hedrich, Vending Operator From Maine, Dies At 85

PRESQUE ISLE, ME -- Vending operator Uriah Joseph "Joe" Hedrich II died on June 24. He was 85.

After serving in the Navy in the South Pacific, Hedrich returned to Presque Isle, ME, to begin his first business venture, The Hedrich Vending Co. The company is now led by his son, Todd Hedrich.

Long active in industry affairs, Hedrick was cofounder and past president of Pine Tree Vending Association. He was also a member of The Masonic Trinity Lodge and other civic organizations.

He was an avid salmon fisherman, and enjoyed gardening, beekeeping and golfing. He is remembered by family and friends for his quick wit and humor.

Hedrick is survived by his life partner Sandra Thompson and four sons who, in addition to Todd and his wife Jennifer, are Uriah J. "Joe" III, Gregory and fiancée Jan Lovett, and David and his wife Nancy. He also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
