BOGOTA -- Colombia, the world's largest producer of mild washed arabica coffee, produced a total of 14.2 million 60-kilo bags between January 2016 and December 2016.
The Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) reported that during December 2016, production reached 1.3 million bags. This represented a 9% decrease from December 2015's 1.4 million bags. By contrast, so far this coffee year, which began in October 2016, coffee production has registered a 5% increase to nearly 4.4 million bags.
Between January 2016 and December 2016, Colombian coffee exports reached 12.9 million bags. This represents a 1% increase over the 12.7 million bags registered during 2015.
In December 2016, coffee exports saw a 23% increase, reaching 1.5 million 6- kilo bags. And during the first three months of this coffee year, Colombian exports reached 4 million bags. This represented a 15.8% increase, compared with the 3.5 million bags sold in international markets during the same period in the prior coffee year.
