CHICAGO -- Coffee industry veteran Leo Fante has been appointed chairman of the upcoming National Automatic Merchandising Association Coffee Service Education Summit, according to an announcement by NAMA coffee service director Roger J. Stewart. The event is set for the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ, from June 15 through 17.

Fante is director of business development for Consumers Choice Coffee (Louisville, KY), an operation that serves more than 1,500 coffee and foodservice accounts in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. He has more than 30 years' experience in the coffee business, and is widely regarded as a coffee service pioneer.

He served as president of the Tri-State Coffee Service Association and the Midwest Coffee Service Association during the OCS industry's formative years, and was vice-chairman of the National Coffee Service Association. Fante chaired the last two NCSA conventions, in Reno, NV, and New Orleans, in 1998 and 1999. He is an NCSA Certified Design Consultant and a Specialty Coffee Association of America espresso-training specialist, and has won SCAA's Golden Cup Award that recognizes excellence in brewed coffee.

The 2009 Coffee Summit will open on the evening of Monday, June 15, with a welcome reception for operator registrants. The next day will feature a diverse curriculum, offering a varied round of presentations and in-depth roundtable idea-exchange sessions. Industry experts and program participants will cover a range of topics, from operations and inventory control through route consolidation to "green" opportunities.

Three different educational tracks will be available, with every subject chosen for timeliness and relevance to the challenges faced by coffee service operators every day.

Tuesday's activities will conclude with a networking reception and tabletop displays of the latest in equipment, accessories, products and services for workplace refreshment service.

Wednesday, June 17, will offer intensive brainstorming opportunities at the roundtable sessions, enabling conference-goers to learn what others are doing to remain profitable in an adverse economic climate and to share their own ideas and experiences. The event will wrap up before noon on Wednesday.

NAMA's 2009 Coffee Service Education Summit is the second in what is planned as an ongoing series. This year's confab returns to the greater Philadelphia area, the scene of last year's triumphant program launch. Plans call for scheduling future summits in other major OCS market areas around the country.

Information on the event, and a downloadable registration form, may be found online at vending.org; click on Coffee Service Education Summit on the home page. NAMA is headquartered in Chicago.
