WILLISTON, SC -- Crane Payment Solutions, Crane Merchandising Systems' money-handling division, reports that its Currenza C2 coin changer is ready to accommodate the Royal Canadian Mint's new $1 and $2 coins, which are slated for circulation early next year. Both coins feature new designs incorporating the present wildlife theme, as well as a different metallic composition.
These changes will cause subtle differences in the electrical characteristics of the coins, which requires operators to update the recognition software of existing Currenza C2 changers, the company explained. Through its work with the Royal Canadian Mint, the payment systems company has already updated its recognition software for the Currenza C2 coin changer to enable acceptance.
Crane introduced the Currenza C2 changer system about four years ago. A principal design objective for the C2 was to minimize "exact-change" situations, which vex customers, while reducing change-bank inventories -- which tie up cash -- and to speed machine service. | SEE STORY
Crane Payment Solutions offers the updated Currenza C2 software free of charge for field upgrade by use of the HENRI handheld service tool, which is available from Crane Merchandising Systems and its distributors. The Crane Payment Solutions network of service partners also can update Currenza C2 changers for a nominal charge.
