SUN VALLEY, CA -- New from Impulse Industries is an eye-catching winner-every-time game designed to attract maximum play in high-traffic public locations. Called Wall of Balls, the new piece is accompanied by appealing merchandise from Impulse, including Face Balls and Aliens. Additional compatible items are under development.
Wall of Balls joins Impulse's diverse line of coin-operated diversions, ranging from bulk and flat merchandise vending machines to contemporary versions of timeless attractions like grip testers and scales. The company unveiled a line of skill cranes early in this decade.
Like Impulse's skill cranes, Wall of Balls is offered in three cabinet sizes: two 78"-high x 32"-deep models, in widths of 42" and 32", and a small 75"-high version 30" wide x 24" deep. All feature tempered safety-glass windows, all-steel welded construction and full-access doors that speed and simplify getting to the electronics and products. The marquee graphic panels are formed of laminated polycarbonate, imprinted with 20-year ink and secured to the cabinet with tamperproof stainless-steel fasteners. The company recommends the two larger sizes for Wall of Balls. Both of these are fitted with "super locking" wheels for easy mobility. The larger model can hold about 200 balls.
Impulse Industries has four divisions, one of which operates extensive amusement routes in southern California. This route experience inspired Wall of Balls, conceived as an alternative to skill crane games that is more acceptable to family venues catering to small children, the company reported. Many parents of the latter are understandably reluctant to fund doomed attempts to retrieve a prize, and this has led to some locations regarding skill cranes with disfavor.
A winner-every-time design is the solution, Impulse advises, adding: "Store owners love this concept because a happy customer means fewer complaints and more profits." In perfecting Wall of Balls, the company tested a wide variety of merchandise and determined that a large, round toy that's visible to prospective patrons is ideal.
Because another one of the company's divisions is a large-scale importer of toys and novelties from the Far East, Impulse was able to source a variety of balls of the correct size at a cost permitting them to be sold for $1. Perhaps because of the current economy, or because of the well-known preference for single-insertion purchases, the $1 price-point has proven disproportionately successful, the company said.
Wall of Balls presently is offered in Alien and Face Ball themes (both are popular styles in the company's Sticker Ball line). Impulse now is testing additional toys of correct size and cost, and is experiencing success with some inflatable items (pre-inflated for the convenience of young patrons). Experience has shown that best results are obtained by stocking a single item rather than a mix, and rotating the merchandise every three weeks to maintain high sales volume.
