PepsiCo, Pepsi, 100% recyclable PET bottle, plant bottle, switch grass, pine bark, corn husks, vending machine products, soda machine, beverage container, greener beverage container
PURCHASE, NY -- PepsiCo Inc. announced that it has created a 100% recyclable PET bottle made entirely of plant material.
The bottle is made from switch grass, pine bark and corn husks. The company expects to broaden the renewable sources used to create the "green" bottle to include orange peels, potato peels, oat hulls and other byproducts from its foods business.
Officials said the new bottle looks, feels and protects the beverages inside the same as its existing PET beverage containers. PepsiCo will pilot production of the new bottle in 2012.
Rival Coca-Cola Co. currently makes a bottle composed of 30% plant-based materials.
