MooBella Expands Into Airports, Obtains $9M In Additional Funding

TAUNTON, MA -- MooBella reports that its novel automatic single-serve ice cream dispensing system has been installed in two New England airports. Passengers traveling to or from Logan International Airport (Boston) and the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (Manchester, NH) now can prepare a variety of ice cream delicacies, made fresh to order, with MooBella's Ice Creameries.

MooBella, which launched its first field test in 2006 and began large-sale deployment last year, also announced that it has secured an additional $9 million in funding from Inventages Venture Capital SA (Geneva, Switzerland). This funding will allow MooBella to continue to expand its penetration of foodservice channels.

Since September 2009, when MooBella received its Series A Funding, the company has moved quickly from research and development to a commercial enterprise. At this writing, it has 45 commercial machines installed in a variety of location segments, including colleges and universities, zoos and aquariums, museums, sports arenas, corporate cafeterias, performing arts centers, movie theaters, hospitals and now airports.

The MooBella Ice Creamery, which is about the size of a household refrigerator and occupies 10 square feet of floorspace, offers patrons a choice of 96 combinations. After selecting one of two ice cream varieties (premium or "light"), any of three mix-ins and one of 12 flavors by use of a touchscreen interface, the patron receives a freshly prepared hard-freeze ice cream treat in about 40 seconds.

These machines now are available to travelers in the Back Bay Café and Lean & Green Café, both in Boston's Logan Airport Terminal C, and at the Great American Bagel Bakery in the boarding area on the second floor of the Manchester terminal. MooBella reports that is now is in discussions with seven other regional airports.

MooBella ice cream is made from all-natural dairy ingredients, is certified kosher and is free of transfat and rGBH. The premium product is 90% fat-free and contains only 230 calories per 4-1/2-oz. scoop; the light variety is 95% fat-free and delivers only 200 calories per 4-1/2-oz. scoop.

Inventages, which supports companies involved in life sciences, nutrition and wellness, manages $1.5 billion. According to MooBella president and chief executive Bruce Ginsberg, Inventages "continues to be a great partner in all respects. They understand our global potential and have helped us with more than just a capital infusion."
