May 20, 2005: Betson's Hugh Betti Dies

DISTRIBUTION PIONEER HUGH BETTI DIES MAY 18 AT 84

PALISADES PARK, NJ - Hugh Betti, a longtime executive of H. Betti Industries, is dead at age 84. A pioneer in coin machine distribution, Hugh and his brother Humbert (Bert) Betti grew up in the on-street jukebox and billiards operation founded by their father, Humbert Betti, Sr., before World War II. Both sons served in the war, and Hugh attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps. The family business expanded into supply and distribution after the war. The distribution unit assumed its own identity as Betson Enterprises in the early 1960s. After his brother's retirement, Hugh remained active in Betson Enterprises, coming in every day and keeping current on the latest trends in coin-op. His death follows closely upon that of Bert's wife Eileen (Jane), also at age 84. Hugh is survived by his wife Lorraine, son Joseph, daughter Nancy Horsey and three grandchildren. A funeral mass for Hugh will be held at 9:00 AM on Monday, May 23 at St. Michael's Church (Palisades Park, NJ). Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Blackley Funeral Home (Ridgefield, NJ).
