Incredible Technologies' novel four-month Silver Strike Bowling tournament, Bowlapalooza, came to a rousing conclusion late in August. "Deadeye" Del Flecker of Indianapolis overcame two tough competitors by attaining a record-breaking 298 average score to win $1,000.
Bowlapalooza tournament director Scott Morrison reported that this average, as well as the averages of the second- and third-place finalists, all were record-setters. "It's hard to believe that someone's best-25-game average could be 298, but the guys finishing second and third would have won any previous month's event," he said.
The Silver Strike Bowlapalooza tournament ran for four months, culminating in the August Encore round. To qualify for the tourney, contestants had to play at least 25 games in 25 days. They could play many more, since qualification was based on the average score for their best 25.
During the promotion's four months, qualifiers bowled more than 900,000 games, generating nearly $1 million for operators and locations. Neither operators nor locations had to put up any of the prize money, nor did they incur any additional expense to take part, he added, and players did not pay extra fees to compete.
IT resumes its Silver Strike Bowling national sweepstakes program this month. It awards weekly prizes every Friday evening and displays them directly on the game screen. The monthly mega-prize is awarded on the last Friday of the month. September's mega-prize is a $5,000 Bass Pro Shops gift card; subsequent mega-prizes include gift cards worth $3,000 from Home Depot, $2,000 from Best Buy and $1,000 from American Airlines. Players receive one entry for each game played, and can win five additional entries by achieving a "Red Pin" strike; the opportunity to do this is offered once during a game.
Some 10,000 SSB games are online in locations across the country. The next generation, Silver Strike LIVE, is slated for release in the first quarter of 2010.
