NEW YORK CITY -- TouchTunes Interactive Networks has released yearend charts listing the top songs and most popular artists of 2011. The charts are compiled from an analysis of the more than 900 million songs played across TouchTunes' network, which links 50,000 in-venue music systems with the TouchTunes music library. They show consumers choosing a mix of new releases and classic songs from the jukeboxes they patronized in social settings during the year.
The most-played song across all music genres was "Dirt Road Anthem" by Jason Aldean, which became a hit single for the country superstar. Also making the TouchTunes Top 10 list of most-played selections were "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele, Eric Church's "Smoke a Little Smoke" and "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock.
Aldean expressed his pleasure at placing first on the list. "Having the No. 1 song of the year running on TouchTunes jukeboxes is a cool thing for me," he said. "It means my songs are being played in most every bar and honkytonk in the country.
"Those are the kinds of places [where] I used to have gigs when I was a teenager down in Georgia," he recalled. "It's a really cool full-circle kind of moment."
Aldean was also the third most played artist on the network, surpassed only by longtime fan favorites AC/DC, who was the second most played, and Kid Rock, who was the most played overall.
Other top artists on TouchTunes in 2011 include the Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
"It's always fun to look at the most played songs and artists on our network," said TouchTunes music marketing vice-president Vicki Saunders. "TouchTunes provides fans with a unique listening experience, and gives them a chance to find that one perfect song that will set the mood for their night out. For many this year, Jason Aldean did just that."
