NEW YORK CITY -- A proposal by Republican vice-presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan to replace Medicare with a voucher system would turn the federal program into a government version of a ticket-redemption counter, like those found at Chuck E. Cheese's or Dave & Buster's, according to a recent blog published by The Huffington Post.

The Huffington Post blog in question was written by Jim McKay, identified as the state coordinator for Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia. McKay described Chuck E. Cheese's as his son's favorite local children's pizza place. But his comparison of Ryan's proposal to arcade redemption was not meant as a compliment.

Medicare is the primary source of health insurance coverage for nearly 45 million Americans, including most senior citizens.

Ryan has repeatedly said that under his plan, no changes to Medicare would be imposed on those 55 years and older who have paid into the system for decades.

Ryan also said the same basic approach was endorsed by a blue-ribbon commission to save Medicare that was established by then-president Bill Clinton in the late 1990s.
