PARKER, CO -- The Pelican Group's George A. Karas died here on May 29. He was 73.

Karas is a 25-year veteran of the coin-op and vending industries. He began his career at northern California's Coin Amusement, where he was executive vice-president and chief operating officer. He also worked at TD Rowe, where he managed the vending company's national accounts for 10 years. Karas once served as president of the California Coin Machine Association.

The industry vet joined the Pelican Group, a vending and amusement management company headquartered in Danville, CA, in 2005. He was hired by his friend and Pelican president Richard Scherer, who put him in charge of managing accounts, and developing new business, in the central U.S. and Rocky Mountain regions.

"George was a person with incredible integrity," Scherer said. "He was a very loving man with a large heart. He will be sorely missed."

Karas was born in Youngstown, OH, on Nov. 22, 1937. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorrie, to whom he was married for 28 years. He was first married to Sylvia Ugolini for 23 years and they had three children.

Karas is survived by his brother, Costa "Gus" Karas; sons Mark and Jeffrey Karas; daughter Anastasia Gervasi; and grandchildren Nikolas, Zoe, Marina and Michael.
