HICKORY, NC -- Wow! Foods, a maker of handheld foods sold through vending machines and convenience stores, has discontinued its operations.
Its founder, 35-year food industry veteran Jimmy Richardson, and his son, Cole, have joined G&J Marketing Co. as national sales representatives. His other son, Jason, has joined the Palm Harbor, FL, vending brokerage as vice-president of operations.
Richardson, who once owned of Pierre Foods, said Cincinnati-based AdvancePierre Foods has bought Wow! Foods’s packaging materials and will continue to produce some of its products.
Wow!'s vendible convenience foods, which debuted in spring 2010, included Dale Earnhardt Jr.-branded wings, cheeseburgers, and chicken and barbecue pork sandwiches under the Nascar legend’s name.
The company had planned to roll out additional handheld product lines through partnerships with major national and regional restaurants and consumer brands.
