SAN FRANCISCO -- Cantaloupe Systems has launched its Seed 2 summer 2010 update, which includes a number of enhancements designed to build on the popular wireless "cloud-computing" system for vending.

Highlights of the summer update include enhanced pre-pick functionality to further improve back-office functionality; a new sales fluctuation management tool; an augmented user interface, now enhanced with messages confirming actions; and improved search capabilities.

Chief executive Mandeep Arora explained that the company relies on customer feedback in conjunction with its own ongoing development efforts to make sure its products stay on the leading edge of vending technology. A number of the enhancements made to the 2010 summer update were made in response to operator suggestions, Arora reported.

Cantaloupe Systems was founded in 2002 by Arora, a second-generation vending professional and engineer, and Anant Agrawal to take data collection, retrieval and processing in the vending industry to a new level. Installed in individual vending machines, the Seed device monitors all transactions and transmits the data securely over cellular networks and the Internet "cloud." This permits vending operators to know every machine's inventory and collection without making a physical visit.

According to the company, operators using Seed can average $35,000 in annual savings per route, replenish 80% more machines in a week and reduce their carbon footprints by 40% by decreasing truck travel and carrying less on each truck.
