New Branded Venders Hit Market For Licensed Jelly Belly And Jolt Products

PLANTATION, FL — Candy King of America, a firm that identified a niche for specialized venders of branded products such as Altoids, has announced the introduction of two new units. According to company officials, the firm is set to launch its Jelly Belly JB Gum and Jolt Energy Gum venders.

The Jelly Belly JB Gum vending unit offers patrons a single piece of 850-count ball gum for 25¢. Introduced last year by Oak Leaf Confections, the licensed gum features Tangerine, Watermelon, Blueberry, Juicy Pear and Very Cherry flavors based on the same formulation as the original gourmet Jelly Belly jelly beans made famous by president Ronald Reagan.

Jolt Gum is a spearmint-flavored chicle and was launched by GumRunners in 2003. Licensed from the popular Jolt Cola, the beverage gained notoriety for its distinctive tagline, “All the sugar, twice the caffeine” that made it a favorite among college students.

“What we’ve done is extend the brand concept to the machine itself,” said Ron Tannebaum, general manager of Candy King of America. “Ever since I was a boy, every vending machine I saw was a ‘bowl on a pole,’ but today people are looking for brand names. If they know the brand, they know the quality and they feel more comfortable with it.”

The two products, said Tannebaum, are designed to appeal to different demographics. While the Jelly Belly JB Gum is suitable for all ages, the widest appeal will probably reside among younger customers, while the Jolt product will probably find its market niche among teens and young adults.

According to Tannebaum, branding opens up more doors than generic machines with run-of-the-mill product. “Location management recognizes the brand. And when the machine is designed to look like the brand, it speaks for itself,” he explained.

Constructed of heavy-duty injection molded plastic, both units stand 4 ft. high and feature Seaga Manufacturing’s coin mech, vend mech and globe. Capacity for the JB Gum is 335 pieces while the Jolt Gum chicle globe can hold an entire 10-lb. box.
