DAVIDSON, NC -- The South Carolina Vending Association's is putting the finishing touches on plans for its 23rd annual SCVA Winter Training Conference. It will be held Jan. 21-23 (Fri.-Sun.) at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, SC.

The early bird $99 plus tax hotel rate for operator members ends on Wednesday, Dec. 15; after that the regular SCVA rate of $119 applies. Register online or call (877) 756-2121 (enter group code SCVA).

The conference gets underway on Friday morning, Jan. 21, with SCVA's annual meeting and an update from National Automatic Merchandising Association vice-president of government affairs Ned Monroe on the new federal nutritional labeling laws and what they mean to the vending industry.

SCVA lobbyist Tom Sponseller will follow with a state legislative report, after which he and Monroe will coach SCVA members on how to effectively communicate with their representatives and encourage them to make decisions that ensure equitable treatment for the vending industry.

After the morning sessions, the 10th annual Don Head Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Wescott Plantation. A box lunch will be served before the 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.

On Saturday morning, Mark Manney of Loss Prevention Results (Wake Forest, NC) will lead an eye-opening session on "Ripping the Mask off Internal Theft." A panel discussion entitled "Coffee -- Get it While it's Hot!" will follow; two manufacturer representatives and three OCS operators will share their insight on growth opportunities, maximizing efficiency, bolstering profitability and leveraging technology.

A group outing on Saturday afternoon to the historic H.L. Hunley, a local tourist attraction, will offer a history lesson on the nation's first submarine to engage and sink a warship. Hunley engaged and destroyed the Union warship Housatonic off Charleston in 1864.

Conference-goers will unwind at a cocktail reception, followed by NCVA's popular dinner banquet and silent auction.

A keynote breakfast concludes the program on Sunday morning, with a presentation by Dr. Rick Brewer, Charleston Southern University's vice-president of student affairs, athletics and ministry, which promises to leave SCVA member recharged and inspired.

In lieu of a registration fee, SCVA is asking operator members to donate a silent auction prize. Nonmember operators pay $150 to register. Non-sponsoring suppliers pay $400 to attend: sponsoring supplier registration fees vary based on sponsorship amount. Call (704) 400-0880 or email courtneym@imiae.com.
