DENVER -- The U.S. District Court here ruled on Aug. 24 that Nathan Dunlap may be executed for committing mass murder at a Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant in Aurora, CO, in 1993. Attorneys for the defendant said they will appeal the verdict another time.

Shortly after being fired from the pizzeria and arcade, officials said, Dunlap shot five employees on Dec. 14, 1993, at the CEC store and robbed the store's safe.

Four victims died, and one survived to alert police and identify the killer.

Dunlap was arrested the day after and charged with 18 counts of various felonies from first-degree murder to aggravated robbery. The case went to the Colorado Supreme Court, which termed the defendant's acts "cold-blooded executions."

Dunlap has appealed various aspects of the case only to see courts continue to uphold the conviction and sentence, with judges saying he received a competent defense and a fair trial. Dunlap's attorneys said his next appeal will be filed with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
