BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- Sprinkles, a gourmet cupcake chain, has begun operating its first custom-built cupcake vending machine at its original store here. Plans call for rolling machines out at stores nationwide this summer.
The ATM-like machine features a touchscreen display and a robotic arm that pulls the selected fresh-baked cupcake variety from a wall of single-serving boxes inside the store. It also dispenses cupcake mixes, apparel, and even cupcakes for patrons' canine companions, around the clock.
The machines will be located inside the bakeries at first, but accessible from outside so that customers can indulge even when the stores are closed. Eventually, the machines will be at remote locations apart from the stores.
