ISTANBUL, Turkey -- A Turkish company called Pugedon has created a vending machine that feeds stray animals each time someone deposits an empty bottle.

An estimated 150,000 stray dogs and cats reportedly wander the streets of Istanbul alone, which prompted Pugedon to take action.

When users deposit their bottle at the top of the Smart Recycling Box, food is dispensed out the bottom. Users can also empty remaining water from their plastic bottle into a funnel that fills a dish for the animals before recycling it.

The machines operate at no charge to the city, and the recycled bottles cover the cost of the food.
