BERLIN, Germany -- The European Vending Association has announced the program for its upcoming EurOps 2009 Conference, which will be held at the Concorde Hotel here on March 26 and 27. The first EurOps confab was organized in 2003, and it has grown into a major annual event for operators in Europe.

The theme of this year's conference is "Better, Smarter and Greener Vending." The proceedings will get underway with an address by EVA director-general Catherine Piana. She will present highlights of the first market and consumer survey of the vending industry; it was conducted by Datamonitor, a London-based international market research organization.

The next session will be devoted to more effective management of existing vending businesses and the development of new opportunities. It will be led by Michal Piotrowiak, founder of Poland's Mastercup Vending; Hubert Boyer of Lyovel in France; and Lucio Pinetti, Liomatic of Perugia, Italy.

Taking up the topic of "smarter vending" will be Guido Panigada of Italian software supplier Digisoft S.p.A.; Associated Vending Services' Brian Tustain, whose company is a cooperative organization of 27 independent operations serving the United Kingdom and Ireland; and Csaba Szalai of Microtronic, a world leader in cashless payment systems based in Switzerland.

The culminating event will be a discussion of the challenges and opportunities that environmental concerns and the demand for sustainability present. Discussing this crucial topic will be Esther Hoffman of Germany's Institute for Ecological Economy Research; Karl Heinz Blum of Blum Betriebsverpflegung, a longtime industry member who serves as spokesperson for the German operators' association BDV; vending veteran David Hoskin, now representing Save-a-Cup; and a senior representative from N&W Global Vending Group.

Moderating the conference will be Alex Puissant, a well-known journalist who has served as news anchor for Northern Belgium's Vlaamse Radio-en Televisieomroep (Flemish Radio and Television Network). Fluent in Dutch, French, English, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, Puissant is famous as an international conference facilitator. He has served in a similar role at previous EurOps meetings.
