WINCHESTER, VA -- Inside Coin-Op, which described itself as the "one-stop shop" for an online compilation of industry news from the trade's leading business journals, will go offline in a month. The site's administrator and editor in chief, Jim Pietrangelo, announced the shutdown on March 16.

Pietrangelo, a past president of the Amusement and Music Operators Association, launched Inside Coin-Op in 2006, posting items with permission from Vending Times, RePlay and PlayMeter, and also providing the occasional tidbit from the national trade associations. Material from Kevin Williams' Stinger Report also appeared.

Pietrangelo stopped posting news on March 17. He said the website remains open for visitors to read older stories and post comments for the next month, then will go dark.

Pietrangelo said that although the website has received a lot of hits over the years, he now believes industry is both over-served by similar electronic newsletters and yet under-served -- by what he regards as a dearth of real journalism as opposed to promotional copy, presumably a reference to publicity announcements released by manufacturers and distributors.

The Inside Coin-Op founder thanked readers, subscribers, financial supporters and the publishers of the four trade media resources from which most of the site's material was sourced.

Pietrangelo first came to prominence in the amusements industry as marketing vice-president at SMS, an East Coast-based countertop videogame maker, in the mid-1980s. He later was a successful distributor with administrative control of AMA Distributors (Metairie, LA) from 1995 to 2000. He eventually became the owner-operator of Top Draw Amusements in Winchester, VA, and served as AMOA president from 2005 to 2006.

Among Pietrangelo's current ventures is WebCampOne, a website development firm.
