Pinball Success Story

MELROSE PARK, IL -- High-quality gameplay and a "savvy instinct for licensing" are two key reasons why Stern Pinball, under the leadership of its eponymous founder, has survived long after the departure of many former competitors, according to a recent profile in the Chicago Reader.

The paper noted that up to 150 employees work in the factory here depending on production cycles. Among them are veteran designer Steve Ritchie.

Balancing various submarkets has led to the creation of multiple editions of a single title, with the different versions equipped with different features and different prices. Editions can range from the (operator) Pro models, which sell for about $4,700, to limited editions for as high as $8,000, aimed at high-end collectors.

Stern's latest property for pinball is AC/DC. | SEE STORY
