RICHMOND, VA -- Performance Food Group, parent company of Vistar, has acquired Somerset Food Service. Based in Somerset, KY, it was founded in 1962 as an independent broadline distributor, specializing in serving the needs of single- unit independent operators as well as multi-unit regional and national chains, schools and healthcare foodservice operations. The distributor was acquired by its current owners in 1988 and employs approximately 130 associates.
It will become one of the Performance Food Group's broadline distribution companies, operating as Performance Foodservice -- Somerset. Tommy Jones, the Kentucky distributor's general manager, will become president of the operating unit.
Performance Food Group is a national distributor of foodservice products from more than 65 facilities from coast to coast. It distributes more than 68,000 national and private label food and food-related products to 41,000 restaurants, hotels, cafeterias, schools, healthcare and other institutions. PFG was formed in 1987, with the merger of several broadline and customized distributors. In 2008, it merged with Vistar, a leading distributor to vending, retail, theater and concession operators. Its Roma division supplies pizzerias and other Italian-themed restaurants.
