LAKEWOOD, NJ -- Coastal Amusements is building on the success of its Temple Run game with a sequel that is now shipping. Like the first model, Temple Run 2 is a coin-op interpretation of a popular game for mobile devices ("coin-app" is Coastal's description of this concept).
The Temple Run mobile games were developed and published by Imangi Studios (Raleigh, NC). They're available for devices running Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8 operating systems.
"The Temple Run series is one of the most successful mobile apps ever, with more than a billion downloads," said Coastal's Sal Mirando. The games have been played more than 32 billion times by their devoted international fans, he said; "with that kind of popularity, Temple Run 2 is sure to be a hit and a 'must have' in every location." Interestingly, well over half the players of the mobile games are female, demonstrating the challenging adventure's very wide appeal.
Coastal's Temple Run 2 incorporates the accursed temple's different location in the new app, as well as higher-speed running, single monstrous monkey, additional obstacles and other novel features. The game is equipped with an ultrahigh resolution 42" monitor and, like its predecessor, allows the player to emulate the swiping gestures used to control the mobile game. The new piece stands 98" high and measures 44" wide x 33" deep. It weighs 300 lbs.
