ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — As of mid-March, Incredible Technologies will ship the 2009 update for its Silver Strike Bowler’s Club online videogame. The new version, costing $299, will be highlighted by a tournament featuring a prominent $100,000 prize pool.
The company explained that it is working to bolster the profit potential of its SSBC line by mimicking successful strategies employed with its flagship game, Golden Tee Golf, and that the 2009 update will benefit from new play modes and novel features borrowed from this and other IT products.
Because literal gameplay is limited in the ways it can be improved or altered, “IT has come up with new ways for players to spend more money on Silver Strike,” explained the company’s vice-president of sales, Don Pesceone.
The 2007 release of SSBC was promoted with the Silver Strike Sweepstakes, an ongoing contest that awarded a cash prize three weeks out of the month, plus a grand prize. To bolster interest in this element, the company now will award substantially more – paying 10 weekly winners $100 each in addition to offering a grand prize.
“Operators with sweepstakes winners are unanimous in their praise for the feature – it strengthens relationships with locations and generates excitement and loyalty with players,” Pesceone said.
Officials also note that the update incorporates several new play modes and features, including Survivor: Strike or Die, a promotional option that the company compares to Golden Tee’s Closest-To-The-Pin.
“Operators need a way to conduct quick and easy contests on SSBC games,” said IT’s marketing director, Gary Colabuono. “Now they can run a promotion on a single machine in a packed bar in only an hour or two.”
For 50¢, Survivor mode lets a group of players enjoy a quick contest, competing to bowl the most continual strikes and avoid elimination. The company notes that there are no ITNet fees with this option, making it particularly profitable for operators.
ATTENTION GETTER: To help build player awareness about qualifying tournaments, Incredible Technologies is shipping Silver Striker Bowler’s Club upgrade kits with posters that operators can distribute at their locations. In addition to the posters, information about the national tournament will play on updated SSBC games.
The company also introduced Red Pin Bonus, an operator-controlled feature that aims to entice new patronage and appeal to casual players. If enabled, playing an unregistered game will give the patron a chance to win a free one by successfully executing a series of strikes.
Rounding out the new options is Throwdown Bracket Play, a concept borrowed from IT’s Target Toss Pro: Bags title. The feature makes it easy for players to run a quick contest, a tournament or even a league if they choose, allowing competitions between 4, 8 or 16 individuals.
Pesceone reiterated that “everything about SSBC 2009 is about making operators more money,” and that these features accomplish this by appealing to all types of players in some way.
Perhaps the most notable aspect of the update’s debut will be the rollout of the Silver Strike Bowling National Championship, scheduled to begin April 15. The new national tournament will see a $100,000 prize pool awarded to 800 players from four set regions across the U.S.
SSBC is the industry's first online video bowling game, and nearly 10,000 machines on location in bars and pubs across the country are connected to the ITNet system. The SSBC Nationals were inspired by the tournament format used for IT’s Golden Tee Regional Championships, which organizes about two months of online qualifying competitions in the Eastern, Midwest, Southern and Western regions.
The eight bowlers with the best 100-game averages from each region will win trips to Las Vegas, where they will compete for the $10,000 top prize and the national championship title. Set for June 21-22, the event will take place at the Kingpin Suite at the Palms Casino.
“Silver Strike players have been clamoring for a national tournament,” said Scott Morrison, IT’s vice-president of marketing. “The underlying demand for this event is huge. Every player will have a chance to win cash, and hardcore players will finally get the opportunity to shine.”
Officials also noted that 12-month, 0% financing is available on update purchases. For information, visit silverstrikebowling.com or call (847) 870-7027
