ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY -- Bard College has installed Tomra's Uno reverse vending machine (RVM) in an effort to eliminate litter on campus, reduce trash haulage costs and generate excitement about recycling at the college.
Students, faculty and staff can deposit their empty plastic and aluminum beverage containers into the Uno machine located at the busy Cruger Village underpass on the Annandale-On-Hudson campus.
In exchange, they receive incentives from program sponsors, including Chartwells, the college foodservice supplier, and the campus's Barnes & Noble bookstore. These companies, along with a number of local merchants, offer coupons through the RVM. Aramark, the campus facilities manager, is a sponsor and is actively supporting the Uno machine.
Tomra recently placed its Uno recycling machines on the Fairfield, CT, campuses of Fairfield University and Sacred Heart University, and in Connecticut's Yale-New Haven hospital.
Headquartered in Asker, Norway, Tomra develops end-to-end recycling solutions. Tomra of North America is headquartered in Shelton, CT.
