TIMONIUM, MD — This year’s Bulk Operators Super Show, which plays host to some of the bulk vending industry’s leading manufacturers and suppliers, will feature a variety of educational seminars and workshops in addition to the customary trade show format. Currently slated for October 5 through 8, the fifth annual gathering of small and mid-sized bulk vending operators will return to the Days Inn located in Timonium, MD. BOSS offers industry members from across the country the opportunity to meet, greet and learn how to better their businesses.

Highlighting this year’s educational workshops will be an audience participation seminar entitled Bulk Rack Vending – Efficient and Effective Servicing, presented by Larry Schatz of Schatz Vending (London Mills, IL). This workshop will feature a demonstration of rack servicing and hypothetical route situations.

Steve Schechner of Capital Vending (Florence, AL), will host Your Break-Even Point, a session that discusses commission versus charity vending. By reviewing the pitfalls and benefits of each strategy, this workshop describes how commission vending and charity vending directly relate to an operator’s bottom line. Schechner will also offer a seminar called Back-Room Vending, which focuses on how to profitably merchandise niche market locations such as research parks and manufacturing facilities.

Together, Larry Shatz and Steven Schechner will moderate an open brainstorming session called Merchandising Bulk Toys, Stickers and Tattoos. This workshop aims to explore innovative ideas for increased profitability in today’s bulk vending market.

Also on the agenda is Professional Locating Anywhere, hosted by Ronnie Gee of RG Vending (Dover, TN). This workshop will review the newest technology and techniques used to expand route size by acquiring new locations. Part of this seminar will be devoted to the effective use of GPS technology to seek out potential business.

Obtaining Sales Tax Exemption, lead by Tommy Paszkiewicz of Cardinal Distributing (Baltimore, MD), is another workshop of interest. Paszkiewicz will share his experiences and successes in gaining tax exemptions in his home state, and explain why tax exemption has become an important issue for today’s bulk vending professionals.

Scott Schille of Gums n’ Roses (Martinsburg, WV), will offer an insightful workshop titled Web Page Design: Everyone Uses the Net…Do I Need To Be On There Too? Schill will discuss the relevance of a company Web page to a bulk vending business, and how Internet promotion can work as a vehicle for advertising, marketing and company image.

Coast To Coast Entertainment will sponsor Crane Machine School, a key workshop for bulk vending operators. Presented by Gary Balaban, this four-hour class will cover the fundamentals of the crane machine business. Topics will range from purchasing and merchandising product to troubleshooting common electrical and mechanical problems with a voltmeter.  All BOSS members will receive a free pass to this school.

Other featured events at BOSS will include an organizational meeting to discuss ways to build a better association, a mentoring program that pairs experienced bulk vending operators with newcomers, and an open round table discussion.

Manufacturers currently slated to exhibit at this year’s show include A&A Global Industries, Cardinal Distributing, Toy ‘n Joy, Vendynamics, Coast to Coast Entertainment LLC, Betson Baltimore Distributing, Capital Vending and Allstar Vending.
