ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL -- The latest driving game from Sega is now available. The new Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Arcade combines fast-paced action with optional ticket-awarding capabilities, and offers players and operators a wide range of possibilities.

The game incorporates a widescreen video display, a subwoofer-equipped seat with multicolored LED illumination and a "feedback" steering wheel with convenient weapons-launch buttons. It brings together Sega's familiar Sonic the Hedgehog and 12 of his friends to take part in action-packed races. There are 13 racing environments based on Sega games. Players can choose such characters as Dr. Eggman, Tails, AiAi, Amigo and others, including Virtua Fighter and Crazy Taxi.

The chosen protagonist is placed behind the wheel of one of a number of well-known Sega vehicles and set to race in the selected environment. "Players enjoy choosing their favorite Sega character and experiencing them in totally different ways and environments," said Sega sales manager Vince Moreno. "Players can race around Curien Mansion, familiar to House of the Dead fans, or choose to be Axel from Crazy Taxi and take his cab for a spin. This game delivers countless surprises, leaving players wanting to know what's next."

The race may be run in any of four modes. In single-player operation, the player competes against the game's central processing unit. As many as eight Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing games may be interconnected for multiplayer action, allowing players to compete head to head. Time Trial mode challenges the player to race against the clock in an attempt to set a new record; and Grand Prix mode pits players against their favorite Sonic and Sega characters on any of three "championship only" tracks.

An unusual feature of the game is its optional ticket dispenser. During a multiplayer game, players compete in a "winner takes all" format. The number of tickets that the operator chooses to award to a winning driver is multiplied by the number of drivers, with the total going to the victor. Thus, a 10-ticket payout would present the winner with 40 tickets if four players were competing.

When assembled, the game measures 82" high by 45" wide by 67.5" deep, and weighs 562 lbs. It began shipping from Sega Amusements USA's Elk Grove Village, IL, warehouse early in May.

Serving the North and South American markets, Sega Amusements USA Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sega Corp. (Tokyo). Its products range from single-player upright videogames through self-contained merchandising games to multiplayer attendant-controlled simulators.
