CINCINNATI -- AdvancePierre Foods has acquired Barber Foods, a manufacturer and distributor of frozen chicken products. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Barber, based in Portland, ME, markets more than 300 frozen raw and fully cooked products including stuffed chicken breasts, chicken nuggets, chicken fingers, and chicken fillets. The Barber brand has a significant presence in retail grocery, club stores and foodservice. Barber's Portland manufacturing plant will become part of the AdvancePierre family of operating facilities.
AdvancePierre officials said the addition of the 50-year-old, family-owned chicken product manufacturer will significantly increase the company's retail business, especially on the East Coast and in Canada.
The Barber brand joins AdvancePierre's existing line of value-added poultry offerings sold under the Fast Fixin' and Fast Classics trademarks.
AdvancePierre Foods was formed last October through a merger between Pierre Foods, Advance Food Co. and Advance Brands. The combined company is a leading supplier of value-added protein and handheld convenience products to the vending, foodservice, school, retail, club and convenience store markets. Oaktree Capital Management, L.P., a Los Angeles-based investment firm, is AdvancePierre Foods' majority shareholder.
