SEATTLE -- Seattle University is the first university in Washington to ban the sales of bottled water through vending machines and cafeterias and concession stands, according to The Seattle Times.

Through a student-led effort to make the school more sustainable, students are encouraged to purchase stainless steel water bottles on campus and fill them up at water fountains.

Last year, students reportedly bought 3,700 plastic bottles of water in campus vending machines and cafés.
