According to media reports, a piece of gum chewed by band member Gene Simmons has sold for nearly $250,000. The gum, which was put up for auction on eBay (item condition: used), garnered 99 individual bids that quickly drove up the price.
The gum was reportedly chewed during an interview on Soccer AM, a British TV sports show. Simmons was in Jolly Ole London Town to sing the national anthem at an exhibition football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 29.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit Street League, a charity that uses sports programs to combat youth unemployment in the UK.
