NAMA NATIONAL EXPO BREAKS ATTENDANCE RECORDS

CHICAGO - Final attendance reports for the National Automatic Merchandising Association National Expo show several hundred more industry professionals attended this year's exposition compared with last year's, according to an announcement by NAMA senior vice-president and COO Dan Mathews.  During the three-day event, held here Oct. 14-16, approximately 5,300 industry professionals traveled from all parts of the globe to visit the show. NAMA's attendance data also indicate that more than 800 operating companies were represented at the show, and approximately 1,100 showgoers were presidents, owners, CEOs or purchasing managers/ buyers. There were 286 exhibitors. "We are thrilled to see so many industry executives taking advantage of all the resources available at the show," said Mathews. "This year we had an especially strong response from the international community, along with representatives from a variety of colleges and universities, which helps everyone because the messages taken back and implemented either in another country or in the classroom help push our industry forward." NAMA's 2005 Spring Expo is set for April 7-8 in Las Vegas with educational sessions running April 6-9. Information is available at http://www.vending.org.

MAMC ALERTS OPERATORS TO DRILL OUT SCHEME

STILLWATER, MN , The Minnesota Automatic Merchandising Council is alerting operator members to an individual posing as a vending machine repair technician who obtains permission from personnel at vending locations to drill out the lock on change machines. The individual then proceeds to remove all the money from the machine. In the past month, there have been an increasing number of incidents of change machine drill-out robberies in metropolitan areas. As a precaution, MAMC is encouraging operators to inform the key contact person at their vending locations of these incidents and to contact their companies if any individual is making a claim that the lock on change machines or vending machines needs to be drilled out or replaced. Operators who are burglarized are urged to contact the local police department at once. Additionally, operators should post a sign on all of their change machines with wording along the lines of:

"This machine is operating properly. There is no need to drill out and replace the lock. If anyone claims that the lock is not operating and needs to be drilled out, call (vending company) at (phone number) immediately! Thank you for your help."
