GREENWOOOD, SC -- An agent of the State Law Enforcement Division in South Carolina reportedly destroyed a video poker game with a crowbar because the location owner refused to give the agent a cash payout, according to local news outlets.

Witnesses said the officer refused to accept a gift certificate and demanded cash for his winnings. When he didn't get it, seven to 12 SLED agents and possibly local police surrounded the machine while the aggrieved officer attacked it with a crowbar, witnesses said.

Two machines were allegedly destroyed. The incident occurred at the Sports Break grill and tavern here.

Earlier this year, the newly elected SLED chief announced plans to step up enforcement against sweepstakes videogames, but later backed off due to the games' ambiguous legal status. | SEE STORY

Payoff poker was outlawed in South Carolina in 2000, but numerous machines are still operated with noncash prizes for winners, said observers.
