PURCHASE, NY -- PepsiCo Inc. said it will begin testing a new reduced-sugar cola in Iowa and Wisconsin beginning in July.
Pepsi Next, which has 60% less sugar than full-calorie soda, targets consumers who do not want all the calories of regular cola but prefer a sweeter taste than is offered by diet versions. It has 60 calories per can versus 150 for Pepsi-Cola.
PepsiCo said that the Next formulation's flavor profile has the advantage of new flavor and sweetener advances over Pepsi Edge, the mid-calorie cola that the company launched in 2004 and discontinued a year later.
